Services
Direct services to people who have been victimized
by sexual assault are free and confidential. WASAC is
a non-reporting agency except in the case of offenders
and minors.
24-hour crisis line
Calls on the crisis line may include a call from
• a man or woman who was recently assaulted or
at some point in the past;
• a significant other (friend or family member)
wanting information on how they can support the person
in their life who has been sexually assaulted
• a person requesting information or support with
the medical/legal system
• a caller asking for information on the Center
and services offered
• someone with questions about child sexual abuse
• a person requesting information on avoidance
Medical and Legal Advocacy
Advocates may be with people who have been victimized
to offer information and support in any of the following
situations
• the hospital emergency room
• at law enforcement interviews (police and sheriff's
department)
• through the court system (preliminary hearings,
trials, sentencings and parole hearings)
Support
Groups
Groups at WASAC are self-help groups. The support groups
provide information on the aftermath of sexual assault
and allow people who have been victimized to share experiences
and feelings surrounding the assault. The groups include
• Adult Female Support Group (for women over 18
years of age)
The group meets on Tuesday at 5:30 pm
• Adolescent Female Support Group (for young women
between the ages of 13-17)
The group meets on Wednesday at 5:30 pm
• The Significant Others Support Group (for adult
friends or family members)
The group meets on Wednesday at 5:30 pm
Group participants are asked to sign a confidentiality
agreement that they will not share any information outside
of group. Childcare is not provided.
One-on-one Crisis Counseling
Short-term crisis counseling is available. A trained
crisis counselor is available during office hours to
provide information and support. Please call the office
for an appointment.
Information and Referral
Information on rape, child sexual abuse, and other sexual
assault issues is available by calling or dropping by
the office. Referrals to additional community resources
are available.
Public Education
Public education is a vital component of services offered
by WASAC and the key to our future success. Educational
programs address a wide range of issues including rape,
child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, personal safety
awareness and professional training. Programs provided
by WASAC include the following.
Personal Safety Awareness
Program
The program is designed for children from pre-kindergarten
through fifth grade to learn about safety techniques
and how to report sexual abuse. The curriculum which
emphasis comfortable and uncomfortable touch and how
to say No, Go and Tell a trusted adult, has been approved
by USD 259. A pre-school program is available.
Sexual Assault Prevention
Program
This program is directed at students in grades six through
twelve. The main topics include: personal rights and
responsibilities, prevention and avoidance techniques,
definitions for incest and date rape and community resources.
Protective
Parenting Program
Sometimes adults and parents do not know how to approach
the topic of child sexual abuse and personal safety
with children. This program focuses on background information
on incest and child sexual abuse, ways to approach personal
safety with various ages of children, some strategies
for responding if a child discloses abuse and how to
report child abuse.
Sexual Assault Information
Programs
Community groups, organizations, business and churches
may request information on issues of sexual assault.
Programs are tailored to fit the needs of the group
requesting the program.
Professional Training
Training is provided to teachers, law enforcement officers,
therapists, social workers, medical personnel and other
professionals.
