Public Education

Public education is a vital component of services offered by WASAC and the key to our future success. Educational programs address a wide range of issues including rape, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, personal safety awareness and professional training. Programs provided by WASAC include the following.

Personal Safety Awareness Program
The program is designed for children from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade to learn about safety techniques and how to report sexual abuse. The curriculum which emphasis comfortable and uncomfortable touch and how to say No, Go and Tell a trusted adult, has been approved by USD 259. A pre-school program is available.

Sexual Assault Prevention Program
This program is directed at students in grades six through twelve. The main topics include: personal rights and responsibilities, prevention and avoidance techniques, definitions for incest and date rape and community resources.

Protective Parenting Program
Sometimes adults and parents do not know how to approach the topic of child sexual abuse and personal safety with children. This program focuses on background information on incest and child sexual abuse, ways to approach personal safety with various ages of children, some strategies for responding if a child discloses abuse and how to report child abuse.

Sexual Assault Information Programs
Community groups, organizations, business and churches may request information on issues of sexual assault. Programs are tailored to fit the needs of the group requesting the program.

Professional Training
Training is provided to teachers, law enforcement officers, therapists, social workers, medical personnel and other professionals.
