Our Impact

Every day, survivors, families, and community partners remind us why this work matters.
SURVIVOR VOICES
While every healing journey is unique, these words reflect the experience and the impact of compassion, advocacy, and community support. The following quotes were shared by survivors and family members who received services through WASAC. They are shared with permission and without identifying details to protect anonymity.
"We could not have made it through this trauma without you. My children will heal and be whole people because you helped us navigate this healing process. I will forever cherish WASAC and the staff that has not only provided therapy for my children but, has also given me a place to process and heal."
- mother of a child survivor

THERAPY

"I would not have been able to heal and process my trauma without your support...Thank you so much for creating a safe space for my mess and helping me to restore what was lost."
-adult survivor of sexual assault
ADVOCACY
"WACAC has saved us... The day we found out about the abuse, WASAC was there. Through the court process and the fear of the unknown, WASAC was there. On the days when my kid couldn't function and was in genuine crisis, WASAC was there. When I, as a parent, have felt overcome by the reality of this devastating trauma, WASAC was there, holding our hands, letting us scream and cry, reminding us that we can be whole again."
- mother of a child survivor of sexual assault

EDUCATION

"The advocate was very kind and willing to answer lots of our questions. I am glad we have a resource like the sexual assault center to call anonymously."
-high school student
COMMUNITY PARTNERS

WASAC provides invaluable support for medical staff and patients by providing advocacy during forensic exams, new clothing in cases where the patient's clothing may need to be collected for evidence, and snacks and drinks for our patients who may have gone a period of time without eating or drinking for the purposes of evidence collection. The advocacy provided by WASAC during the forensic medical exam allows for support and resources to be provided at a time when most survivors are just starting their healing journey."
- Daniell Weidner, Forensic Nursing Team Lead, Ascension
MEDICAL
SOCIAL SERVICES
"COMCARE's Community Crisis Center often partners with organizations in the community, such as WASAC, to ensure that our patients receive coordinated, trauma-informed care. Sexual assault can be a contributing factor for some of the patients we serve. WASAC provides the advocacy, support, and counseling they need. Together, we can enhance the continuum of care, improve access to supportive services, and help patients feel supported emotionally and clinically during their time of need."
- Jennifer Wilson, Director of Crisis Services, COMCARE

LAW ENFORCEMENT
"Collaboration with WASAC has a significant impact by creating a bridge between survivors and law enforcement."
- Lt. Maria Heimerman, WPD Special Victims Unit
